SUMMER
The village of Graeagle, a former lumber mill, features a quaint array of identical red buildings that house gift shops and services. The Graeagle Mill Pond is a popular swimming and picnicking site during the summer, and is the staging area for the town's annual Fourth of July fireworks display. Arts and crafts fairs held during the summer bring many visitors to the town. Neighboring Blairsden offers a small retail center and includes the nearby Plumas Eureka Estates residential area. The historic town of Johnsville is located five miles west in the heart of Plumas-Eureka State Park. Johnsville was an early mining town which today contains picturesque, gold rush era structures alongside modern homes.
Boating
& Fishing South of Mohawk Valley, the Lakes Basin Recreation Area contains dozens of great fishing lakes, most of them accessible by hiking and horse trails. Gold Lake, the largest, has a boat landing and nearby stables.
Middle Fork-Feather
River
Known for its trout fishing
and spectacular scenery, the Middle Fork is located along highway
70 and the railroad line.
Lake Davis
Also known for its trout fishing and spectacular scenery, this
lake is open during both summer and winter. Located seven miles
north of Portola.
Lakes Basin
Recreation Area
There are nearly 50 small
glacial lakes and streams featuring Gold Lake, Salmon Lake, Long
Lake, and Sardine Lake, which are considered some of the primary
lakes of the area. Also known for its trout fishing and spectacular scenery, this
lake is open during both summer and winter. Located seven miles
north of Portola. Hiking
& Biking Offering hikers some
of the most spectacular scenery and hiking trails around, Bucks
Lake has over 20,000 acres of diverse plant life, trees and landscape
features. The
Pacific Crest Trail runs through the middle of the county just a few miles from the heart of this old-world town. Rich
in volcanic rock formations and remnants of the gold rush, the Lakes Basin area offers unspoiled hiking and mountain biking. The most prominent feature on the landscape is the Sierra Buttes, a series of jagged peaks reminiscent of the Swiss Alps with a hiking trail to the top.

WINTER
Enjoying
over 4 feet of annual snowfall, winter recreation possibilities
are endless. The Gold Lake Highway through the Lakes Basin area is not plowed during the winter, making it a popular playground for snowmobiles and cross-country skiers.
Downhill
Skiing There are 14 world class ski resorts within and hours drive of Graeagle; including, Squaw Valley, Boreal, Northstar, Heavenly and Mammoth Mountain.
Cross
Country Skiing
There are many places to
cross country ski in Plumas County, Nordic skiers will find a
variety of trails ranging from open flat areas to challenging
peaks and more difficult terrain. Trails include Madora Lake; Eureka
Peak Loop; Lakes Basin Area; and Jamison Creek Loop, which is the oldest recorded ski racing area in the western hemisphere and hosts the annual Historic Longboard Ski Revival Series.
